The Social Media bushido code: Benevolence

Konnichiwa,

The next virtue is benevolence. First, Benevolence or Jin can be strongly linked to rectitude and courage, two of the previous virtues discussed. Benevolence is a mix of “right thinking” and courageous behavior.

From a trained samurai point of view, Benevolence is possibly one of the least likely virtues one might expect from them. But as part of the ying & yang equilibrium, one must be cautious to no becoming too compassionate or tender as Inazo Nitobe “Love, affection for others, sympathy and nobility of feeling were regarded as the highest attributes of the soul.”

While working in digital marketing, we spent a lot of time in training & learning thus as a Samurai. In the end, we possess a formidable knowledge in the field. This gained knowledge must be used for the good of all. It’s also posses compassion which can also help people in every opportunity. If an opportunity does not arise, look for one.

We can say in summary that doing good is so much more powerful when the ability to harm at will is present. For me, the sense the true sense of benevolence is an act of the mighty as opposed to the weak.

Sayonara !

The Social Media bushido code

Konnichiwa !

For quite sometime, I’m really fond about Japan and it’s culture.Recently, I came across an interesting book on the bushido code from the the Samuraï warriors. For reminder, samurai were similar to feudal knights in Europe.

According to Wikipedia, the definitions of “bushido” is: the ”Way of the Warrior”,  a Japanese word for the way of the samurai life, loosely analogous to the concept of chivalry. It originates from the samurai moral code and stresses frugality, loyalty, martial arts mastery, and honor unto death.

We might think in some ways that we can find strong analogies between the samurai code of honor and social media. Even, we don’t ask those working social media to make seppuku (ritual suicide) to themselve when they fail.

Basically the Bushidō code is dividied in seven virtues:

  • Rectitude
  • Courage
  • Benevolence
  • Respect
  • Honesty
  • Honour
  • Loyalty

In each post, I will explain in detail each virtues & how they can be related to social media.

Sayonara !
